Essay grader
Graded against a real rubric, or reviewed with no score at all.
Paste the essay below, or upload the file — PDF, Word or text.
What the Essay grader does
Paste an essay or photograph the pages, then choose what you want. Graded gives you a score on thesis, evidence, structure, style and mechanics, each row quoting your own writing as the reason. Reviewed gives you no score at all — what is working, the changes that matter in order, and the one question worth sitting with — which is what a draft actually needs. Neither one rewrites it for you.
Paste the essay, or photograph the pages, and choose one of two things: a grade against a real rubric, or a review with no score at all. It reads the whole piece, not a paragraph, and every comment quotes your own sentences back to you, so you can see exactly what it is reacting to.
It is for the draft before it is due, not the one that is already handed in. The point of both modes is the next revision: what to fix first, what is already working and should not be touched, and one question that would make the argument stronger if you answered it honestly.

More about the Essay grader
Grade it scores five rows out of five: thesis and focus, evidence and support, structure, style and clarity, grammar and mechanics. Each score comes with the quote that earned it, so a 3 on evidence points at the exact claim that was left unsupported.
Review it, no score does what a good teacher does with a draft: two or three things that genuinely land, three or four changes in the order they matter, each naming the sentence or paragraph and saying why the change helps, and one question to sit with. A number ends the thinking, so a draft gets none.
Why ours is better
It never rewrites your essay.
Tools that hand back a polished version teach nothing and get flagged. This one tells you what to change and why, and leaves the writing to you, which is also the only kind of help that survives an honesty policy.
Every judgment is evidenced.
A score without a quote is an opinion. Here each row of the rubric cites the words it is scoring, so you can disagree with it, argue with it in the chat, and win if you are right.
A review is not a grade with the number removed.
The two modes have different instructions and different shapes. Review mode is built around the revision you are about to make, and it is the one most drafts need.
How it was built
The rubric rows were chosen from the criteria that appear on real assignment sheets, and the instruction to quote the writing in every row was added after early versions produced tidy scores that nobody could check.
Grading a draft that is a real argument takes a stronger model than a short math question, and the routing behind the page knows the difference: long, structured writing goes to a model measured on that kind of work, and quick questions stay on cheaper, faster ones. Nothing you paste is used to train anything.
