This Privacy Policy explains how [Company legal name] ("Hey Homework", "we", "us") collects, uses and shares personal information when you use heyhomework.com, its localized versions and related services (the "Service"). It applies to everyone who uses the Service; specific sections apply to users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and certain US states.

In short. We collect what we need to run Hey Homework and nothing for advertising. Your questions are sent to AI providers to generate answers, under settings that stop them from training on your content. We do not sell personal information and we do not show ads. You can see, export or delete your data. The English version of this policy is the binding one.

1. What we collect

  • Account information when you sign in: your email address, a sign-in identifier from Google if you use Google sign-in, and your birth year or an age confirmation.
  • The content you submit: photos of problems, typed text, voice recordings and transcripts, files such as a syllabus, notes, and the answers and conversations generated for you ("Content").
  • Usage information: which features you use, usage tokens counted against your plan (our unit of AI usage, estimated from the model tokens and voice minutes each request used), language settings, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser type, and diagnostic logs.
  • Payment status: whether a payment succeeded, your plan and its renewal date, and a Stripe customer identifier. Stripe collects and holds your card details; we never see the full card number.
  • Cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy.
  • Messages you send us, such as support requests.

We do not ask for and you should not submit sensitive information such as health, religious, biometric or government-ID data, or personal information about other people. We do not derive voiceprints or other biometric identifiers from voice recordings.

2. How we use information

We use personal information to: provide the Service and generate answers; create and secure accounts; count free use and plan allowances; process payments and send billing emails, including renewal reminders; respond to support requests; understand how the Service is used and improve it; detect and prevent abuse, fraud and security incidents; comply with legal obligations; and, only with your consent where required, send product news.

3. AI providers

To generate answers, the Content you submit is sent to AI model providers. Today these are OpenAI and, through OpenRouter, providers such as Anthropic; the list may change, and the current one is available on request. We use provider settings and contracts intended to prevent them from using your Content to train their models. Providers may keep limited logs for a short period to detect abuse. Voice conversations use real-time speech services that process audio as you speak. We do not use your Content to train our own AI models unless you turn on a setting that allows it.

4. Who we share information with

We share personal information only with service providers who process it for us under contract and our instructions: hosting and infrastructure (Vercel), database and authentication (Supabase), payments (Stripe), AI model providers (Section 3), transactional email, product analytics (PostHog, configured without advertising identifiers), and Google when you choose Google sign-in. We may also share information to comply with law or legal process, to protect the rights, safety and property of users, the public or us, in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets (we will tell you if your information becomes subject to a different policy), or with your direction. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for targeted advertising.

5. Retention

We keep account information while your account exists. Content and solve history are kept so you can return to them and are deleted within 90 days after you delete your account, except for copies in routine backups (cleared on their normal cycle) and records we must keep by law, such as payment records. Free-use counters expire on their own. Diagnostic logs are kept for a limited period for security.

6. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that a user is under 13, we delete the account and its information. Users between 13 and 17 may use the Service with a parent's or guardian's permission; we process their information only as needed to provide the Service, and we do not use it for advertising or sell it. Parents and guardians can contact us at [privacy@heyhomework.com] to review or delete a minor's information.

7. Your rights and choices

You can access, correct, export or delete your information in Settings or by emailing [privacy@heyhomework.com]. We will respond within 30 days and may ask you to verify your identity. You can stop product emails using the link in the email. Deleting your account ends your paid plan at the end of the current billing period.

8. Users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom

If you are in the EEA or UK, we process your personal information on these legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the Service and processing payments); our legitimate interests (securing the Service, preventing abuse, understanding usage, improving the Service), balanced against your rights; consent (product emails, any non-essential cookies, and any optional setting that lets us use your Content to improve AI features); and legal obligations. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Personal information is processed in the United States and other countries; transfers rely on the EU-US and UK Data Privacy Frameworks where the recipient is certified, or on Standard Contractual Clauses. Our representative in the EU and UK for data protection purposes, where required, is [representative name and address]. Where local law sets a minimum age for consenting to online services, we apply it.

9. Users in California and other US states

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete and port personal information, to opt out of sale, sharing or targeted advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes beyond those allowed by law. To exercise rights, use the contact in Section 12; an authorized agent may act for you with proof of authority. We do not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals but honor Global Privacy Control where the law requires.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit, access controls and provider security programs. No system is completely secure; tell us at [privacy@heyhomework.com] if you believe your account has been compromised.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. We will post the new version with its date and, for material changes, tell you by email or a notice in the Service before they take effect.
